Transforming the CV of an experienced Product Manager for strategic job search success

Our client, a Product Manager with a rich background in B2B SaaS, approached us with a unique challenge: they had a solid track record in roles across tech and corporate environments, but their CV wasn’t effectively communicating their value. With ambitions to secure a similar position at a tech-for-good company in London, the client needed a CV overhaul that would capture their experience, strategic thinking, and cross-functional leadership skills, while being streamlined and optimised for ATS (Applicant Tracking System) compatibility.

Client’s challenges

  • Years of iterative CV updates in a Word format with embedded tables made editing difficult and resulted in inconsistent formatting and page breaks, which could hinder readability and ATS processing.

  • The CV heavily emphasised past roles but did not showcase the client’s specific achievements and key contributions that hiring managers in the target market (tech-for-good and London-based SaaS companies) would find most valuable.

  • The CV needed a unified narrative that would present the client as a strategic, impact-driven Product Manager with a passion for tech-for-good and proven experience across B2B SaaS, rather than just a series of job descriptions.

  • The client’s Cambridge background was prominent, but their real-world expertise and recent contributions needed more visibility upfront.

Our approach

    • Streamlined Layout for ATS Compatibility: We removed all complex tables and reformatted the CV in a simple, clean layout optimised for ATS scanning. This helped ensure that all relevant content would be parsed correctly, increasing the likelihood of passing initial screening filters.

    • Positioning Key Information: We moved the Education section further down, allowing the client’s recent and most relevant experiences to take precedence at the top. This shift emphasised their professional accomplishments while still keeping their academic background accessible.

    • Crafting a Purpose-Driven Summary: We developed a new personal summary that highlighted the client’s goal of finding a tech-for-good role in London, as well as their dedication to solving complex user challenges. This statement now clearly communicates their commitment to social impact, effective problem-solving, and leadership in B2B SaaS environments.

    • Positioning Core Strengths: The summary now succinctly captures their strengths in strategic communication, cross-functional leadership, and problem-solving—all critical attributes for a Product Manager in the tech-for-good sector.

    • Emphasising Strategic Impact: Instead of listing responsibilities, we highlighted strategic accomplishments in each role. For example, in their most recent role at Brooklyn Solutions, we emphasised how they reduced demonstration preparation time from days to minutes by collaborating with sales—an impactful, quantifiable achievement.

    • Creating a Cohesive Story: Each position now builds on the client’s narrative as a proactive, result-driven Product Manager. For instance, achievements across roles showcase their expertise in project direction, roadmap prioritization, and leading cross-functional teams to deliver high-value outcomes.

    • Sector-Specific Contributions: We included achievements relevant to tech-for-good and regulatory compliance, such as their work on GDPR compliance at Tesco, which would resonate well with mission-driven organisations focused on data privacy and ethical tech use.

    • Highlighting Passion for “Tech-for-Good”: We positioned their “tech-for-good” interest prominently in the summary and rephrased some of their accomplishments to emphasise contributions to user-centered solutions and ethical data management, aligning their experience with the values and goals of potential employers in this space.

    • Targeted Language for Long-Term Roles: We adjusted the language to emphasise stability and a long-term focus, aligning with the client’s preference for permanent positions rather than short contracts.

Result

The transformed CV presents the client as a purpose-driven, strategic Product Manager ready to contribute to a tech-for-good organisation. By streamlining content, optimising ATS compatibility, and focusing on impact, we crafted a CV that not only meets industry standards but also tells a compelling story.

Key Improvements:

  • An ATS-friendly format that preserves crucial achievements and job details

  • A clear, goal-oriented summary that positions the client as both capable and committed to tech-for-good

  • A coherent, narrative-driven experience section that highlights leadership, collaboration, and results

This transformation empowers the client to approach their job search with confidence, equipped with a CV that effectively showcases their capabilities and passion for making a positive societal impact through technology.
