How we helped a recent graduate transition into a marketing role

This case study highlights our work with a recent Master’s graduate with limited formal marketing experience but a solid foundation in transferable skills. This client aimed to break into the competitive marketing field but was unsure how to position her background effectively. We focused on reframing her prior experiences in customer service, social media management, and operational roles to showcase the key skills relevant to marketing.

Client’s challenges

  • With only a brief marketing internship, the client needed to demonstrate her readiness for a full-time marketing role.

  • The client’s CV highlighted strong interpersonal and communication skills but needed to articulate how these abilities would be beneficial in a marketing context.

  • Her previous roles included achievements in customer engagement and operational efficiency, which could resonate with potential employers if presented correctly.

Our approach

  • We created a summary that positioned the client as a proactive, creative, and analytical candidate. We highlighted her education in screenwriting and liberal arts, her hands-on experience, and her passion for marketing, instantly making her stand out to hiring managers.

  • We reframed her customer service and social media experiences, aligning them with marketing competencies like content strategy, audience engagement, and brand representation. Her role as a hostess became "Customer Relations and Reservations Host," and we detailed her experience with CRM platforms and her proactive handling of customer inquiries as examples of her analytical and customer-focused approach.

  • The client’s experience managing a TikTok account with significant engagement was reframed to show her knowledge of content creation, audience insights, and data-driven decision-making. This example supported her credibility in social media management and content strategy.

  • We structured each role with specific marketing-related tasks and achievements, including terms like “data analysis,” “event planning,” and “customer relations.” This approach demonstrated her ability to manage projects and enhance customer engagement effectively.

Result

The client’s revamped CV now reflects her potential as a promising marketer with a unique blend of creativity and analytical skills. Her previous experience is presented as directly relevant to marketing, and her accomplishments align with the expectations of entry-level marketing roles. This transformation has empowered her to apply confidently for marketing roles, with feedback from hiring managers indicating they can now clearly see her fit within the industry.
